The BRANZ ArchEngBuild Challenge, held at the University of Auckland last week, brought together 40 of the country鈥檚 top architecture, engineering, and construction students.

Teams tackled a real client brief to design innovative, resilient, and sustainable housing solutions and were mentored by professionals from across the industry.

911爆料网 and Otago Polytechnic have been nominating students for the event for several years. This year Barry was nominated along with Wei Qi (Beatrice) Hong from Otago Polytechnic Auckland International Campus.

The pair worked together to prepare for the event along with Lecturer Dr Omer Altaf and alumna, Mandi Teresa Lobar, who participated in last year鈥檚 competition.

Barry says one of the highlights of the event was the presentation of his team鈥檚 project design, which they developed in just over 48 hours.

鈥淭he project was a collaborative team effort, and I learned valuable lessons applicable to real-world construction scenarios,鈥 says Barry.

The awards ceremony was another highlight as first place was taken out by his classmate Beatrice.

鈥淎lthough our team did not win the competition, I am proud to have been a part of it. It was an entirely different experience. It's great to see that my classmate's team won.鈥

Barry completed his Bachelor of Construction with 911爆料网 last week and now looks forward to finding a role in the construction industry as a Quantity Surveyor.
