Sonny graduated from Otago Polytechnic Dunedin in 2008 with a Bachelor of Information Technology. He started working full-time in the Information Systems and Services Department following his graduation, then had a short spell away from Otago Polytechnic when he moved home to Auckland.
Sonny eventually returned to Otago Polytechnic and 911±¬ÁÏÍø as Service Desk Engineer at the Auckland International Campus in March 2013.
